Yes. We actively buy U.S. and world paper money, including rare notes, older bills, error notes, star notes, and many types of foreign currency. If you’re unsure whether your notes are worth anything, we’re happy to take a look.
Yes. We regularly help collectors build and improve their collections, whether you’re just getting started, filling albums, or chasing those last hard-to-find coins.
A coin’s value depends on date and mint mark, rarity, condition (grade), eye appeal, and sometimes its gold or silver content. Two coins that look similar can be worth very different amounts.
The only way to give a realistic number is to see the coin—either in person or through clear photos. We’ll review it, explain what you have, and give you a current-market value with no obligation to sell.
Most pawn shops buy mainly for metal value. A specialist rare coin dealer like Jeff Kierstead Rare Coins evaluates rarity and condition and can often pay more accurately for better material.
It depends on what you have. Our auctions are often best for scarcer or higher-value coins where competitive bidding can help prices, while more routine material may be better suited for a direct purchase. Share a list or a few photos and we’ll let you know which route makes the most sense for your coins.
Yes. Many coins are offered through our monthly online auctions, and in some cases we also sell select pieces directly. If you’re looking for something specific, you can email details or give us a call and we’ll let you know what’s available or coming up in an upcoming sale.
A graded coin is a coin that has been sent to a third-party grading company and professionally graded. Once the coin has been authenticated and graded, it is then encapsulated in a secure, tamper-evident holder featuring a label bearing a description of the coin and its grade.
Yes - in most cases we can. With over 40 years in the rare coin business and membership in the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG), Jeff is well qualified to evaluate authenticity. We’ll just need to see the coin in person or in clear photos to give an opinion.
We base our offers on current market data, recent auction results, and the specific grade and rarity of your coins. When we evaluate your material, we explain how we arrived at our numbers so you can compare them to other offers and feel confident you’re being treated fairly.
Maybe, but usually not by a huge amount. If a coin was truly underpriced or misdescribed, there can sometimes be room for a better offer. But in most cases, eBay and similar markets already reflect current pricing pretty closely. We’re always happy to look at what you bought and let you know what it’s realistically worth today.
It’s a common concern, and sometimes the answer is yes. A lot of counterfeit U.S. and bullion coins are sold out of China, and many look convincing in photos. That doesn’t automatically mean yours is fake, but it does mean you should treat it as “unconfirmed” until someone knowledgeable examines it in person. We regularly look at coins like this and can tell you if it’s likely genuine, a problem coin, or a modern counterfeit.
Sometimes, but age alone doesn’t make a coin valuable. Rarity, condition, and collector demand are what really drive price. The best way to know is to have the coin examined so you can get a realistic idea of what it’s worth.
Probably not. Most 2001 state quarters are worth 25¢, even if a video or article claims otherwise. In rare cases, certain error coins can bring a premium, but those are the exception, not the rule. If you think yours might be unusual, we’re happy to take a look and give you an honest opinion.
